Fifty years after the release of the gold Krugerrand, comes the 1oz silver Krugerrand. The gold Krugerrand was the first mass-produced bullion coin, issued from 1967 to the present day. At the peak of its popularity, the Krugerrand accounted for 90% of all bullion coins sold. 2017 saw the fiftieth anniversary of the Krugerrand and the South African Mint issued a commemorative limited edition proof 1oz silver Krugerrand. Due to the popularity of this release, they have now issued a bullion version to compete with the other main silver bullion coins.
